When installing LiteSpeed on a clustered machine, the following error displays: '
Error: Failed Creating directories on the <Server_Name> node'
and/or
'The installer was unable to find the <ServerPath>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn directory structure on node <Server_Name>.'
and/or
'Error make directory.\\servername\C$\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\QuestMaintenancePlan.Tasks\5.0.0.70__... Access is denied.'
1. Windows 2008 Server permissions preventing installation (if applicable)
2. The Windows 2000 Server is running in Terminal Server App mode (if applicable)
Terminal Services has two modes of operation: Remote Administration mode and Application Server mode.
Remote Administration mode permits two concurrent connections and is designed to permit administrators to remotely manage a server by using a Terminal Services client while minimizing impact on the servers performance.
Application Server mode provides access to a Windows 2000-based computer desktop and its programs for users connecting with a Terminal Services client.
The Remote Session may also need to be started with Admin permissions:
Start | Run | mstsc /console (opens remote desktop connection)
Control Panel | Adminstration Tools | Add/Remove Programs | Add New Programs | Run Install Programs (choose LiteSpeed*.msi)
3. When you are trying to install Litespeed files on the shared drive instead of a Local drive.
WORKAROUND 1:
Cluster Installation on Windows 2008 (please refer to attached document)
There are two options for resolving this issue.
a) Run the installation without completing Instance Configuration. Then, once LiteSpeed is installed, run Instance Configuration. (The reason this works, is that the installer runs using the machine account rather than the user account and during installation the machine account does not have access to the other nodes.)
b) Add the Computer object for the node you're running the installation from, into the Local Administrator group on the other nodes of the cluster.
WORKAROUND 2:
If installing LiteSpeed while running in Terminal Server App mode, change the Terminal Server to Administrator mode.
For additional information regarding changing between Remote Administration and Application Server Mode see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238162/
WORKAROUND 3:
If you are trying to install Litespeed files on a shared drive, please use the Local drive. The Litespeed files will be copied over to the local drive of the 2nd node during the installation. Never use the shared drive.
