CONSOLE:
What can I do with the LiteSpeed UI Console?
You can create backups, restore databases, recover database objects, view activity and history for your backups, design Maintenance Plans, schedule SQL Agent jobs and monitor tasks progress.
REPOSITORIES:
What are the repositories for?
LiteSpeed repositories collect and retain statistics on backup activity that occurs through LiteSpeed, including backups conducted from the LiteSpeed UI Console, command-line, or using the extended stored procedures. Repositories collect and present statistics for registered servers.
Do the local repositories contain information about native SQL Server backup activity or only about LiteSpeed backup activity?
There is an option in the LiteSpeed Instance Configuration wizard where you can select whether you want to update the local repository with information about native SQL Server backup activity and view it in the LiteSpeed UI Console.
How many local repositories do I have to install?
LiteSpeed installs a local repository for each server instance you select.
What is the central repository for?
The central repository gathers the local repositories' statistics
It is mandatory to create a central repository?
No, but we recommend to install it as it gives you a complete picture of backups on all servers.
Besides, if a server goes offline, you can use the central repository to find out information about it, such as the last time LiteSpeed backed up the server.
Can I have more than one central repository?
Yes, LiteSpeed allows you to have multiple central repositories. For example, you may want to have one set of server instances report to one central repository and another set to a second
Can a local repository report to two central repositories?
No! You can have multiple central repositories but each local repository will report only to one of them.
STORED PROCEDURES
What are the extended stored procedures?
They are stored procedures that LiteSpeed needs to run on the instances.
Besides you can also use extended stored procedures to perform LiteSpeed activities without using the LiteSpeed UI Console (you can execute them in SQL Server Management Studio or other SQL scripting tool, such as Quest’s Toad for SQL Server.)
How do I install the extended stored procedures?
In the LiteSpeed Instance Configuration wizard you will select the SQL Server instances that will use LiteSpeed and install extended stored procedures
Do I have to install them?
Yes If you want to take full advantage of LiteSpeed functionality on the selected instances.
Can I use LiteSpeed on a SQL Server instance which I have not installed the extended stored procedures?
yes, you can also use LiteSpeed against this SQL Server but you can only perform native actions on them.
If I decide not to install the stored procedures on the initial setup, can I install them later?
Yes, you can run the LiteSpeed Instance Configuration wizard at any time to complete the installation
