Instructions / steps to get Toad up and running on a new computer.
A)
Download the Commercial version (do not use a Trial version) of Toad for Oracle from:
https://support.quest.com/toad-for-oracle/download-new-releases
NOTE: Whichever ‘bit’ you choose, please ensure the ‘bit’ of Toad for Oracle and the ‘bit’ of the Oracle Client Software are the same i.e. either both 32-bit or both 64-bit or else Toad will not see the Oracle Client and will not be able to connect.
NOTE: If you are getting the error, "Unable to verify your entitlement…" or "Our records indicate that your account has not purchased Toad…", please send an email to SupportAdmin@quest.com (this will also generate a ticket number), and let them know of the error that you are getting. They are the ones who can fix 'entitlement' issues.
B)
Have your Toad license key set ready. It is usually emailed to you. If you do not have it, please go to the site below to retrieve it. This site will ask for your 9-digit “License Number” and your email address.
http://license.quest.com/tims/keyRetrieval.do
NOTE: In Toad, you will need to enter both the “License Key” (long alpha-numeric key -- this is not the same as the 9-digit “License Number”) and the “Site Message” (usually your company name in all caps). Both are Case & Space sensitive.
C)
Install Toad for Oracle.
NOTE: The Toad installation requires Full Administrator Rights in both the local PC and your company’s network domain / firewalls. If you do not have it or if you are unsure, please have your IT or Helpdesk people install Toad for you.
D)
If you do not have an Oracle Client Software installed yet on your PC, please install one as it’s required.

>>>>>>> IMPORTANT NOTES: <<<<<<<<
- Download ‘directly’ to your Windows Desktop location or your local C:\ drive (and run it from there too). Do not download to any network drives. This can avoid many potential download and installation problems.
- Un-Zip the downloaded file. Do not run the Oracle ‘setup.exe’ from within the ZIP program or the Zipped folder.
- Right-click the Oracle ‘setup.exe’ and choose “Run as Administrator”.
- In the Oracle Client Installation Wizard, click the “ADMINISTRATOR” radio button (this is not automatically selected).
- Ensure the “bit” of Toad and Oracle Client matches i.e. both 32-bit or both 64-bit or else Toad would not work.
- The Oracle Client installation requires Full Administrator Rights in both the local PC and your company’s network domain / firewalls. If you do not have it or if you are unsure, please have your IT or Helpdesk people install the Oracle Client for you.
- The above 32-bit Oracle Clients will also work on a 64-bit Windows OS.
- Ensure you copy over your TNSNAMES.ORA file (this file usually comes from your company). The usual default location ‘to put’ this file in is:
11g: C:\app\<YOUR_USER>\product\11.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\
12c: C:\app\client\<YOUR_USER>\product\12.1.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\
NOTE: After installing a new Oracle Client, ensure you select it in Toad’s log-in screen | under the “Connect Using:” drop-down box. Ensure you are NOT connected to any database for this setting to be available.
