Is there any way in an automation script to convert a complex excel report into pdf format before it is emailed to the user distribution list ?

No, It is not possible to do that automatically internally within our automation utility. It might be possible to use a 3rd party utility (say a excel to .pdf utility) and run this via the "activity feature" from automation.
