- Under Discovery Management, click Manage Discoveries and stop any running Discoveries.
- Under Discovery Management, click Manage Discovery Clusters.
- Disable any Clusters. The Nodes associated with the Clusters will also be disabled when you disable the Clusters.
- Select the Discovery Nodes tab, then select all nodes and click on Stop Node and wait for the nodes to stop.
- Under Access Explorer Management, click Manage Computers and ensure no managed computers are being updated and all computers display “Data Available” in the Data State field. (This step is no longer required on ER versions 3.x)
- Open Report Manager and confirm that there are no scheduled reports running.
Note: If any reports are running, either abort them or wait until they complete. - Close the Configuration Manager and the Report Manager.
Upgrading all Enterprise Reporter components except the Nodes:
- Open Autorun.exe
– OR –
If necessary, right-click on Autorun.exe and select Run as administrator. - On the Home page, click the Enterprise Reporter Setup tab.
- Start the Quest Enterprise Reporter installer for your operating system (32 bit or 64 bit).
- On the Welcome screen of the Setup Wizard, click Next.

- To upgrade all components, click Next.
– OR –
To upgrade select components, click the drive icon for each component, and select the desired option, then click Next.
Note: Clicking Reset restores the default setting of installing all components. - If you are upgrading the Enterprise Reporter server, specify the credentials and the port number to be used by the Enterprise
Reporter Server service, then click Next.
Note: This service account must be able to access the SQL server where the Enterprise Reporter database resides. - Select your country to determine your customer feedback program status, and click Next.
- If you are not currently participating in the customer feedback program and would like to, click Yes and then click Next.
– OR –
Click Next. - Click Install.
- Click Close and the Database Wizard will start.
Note: Depending on version being upgraded, it is possible that the prerequisites being installed may require the server to be rebooted. If the server reboots after ER components have been upgraded then the Database Wizard must be run manually. The Enterprise Reporter database must be the same version as the Enterprise Reporter server before data collection and reporting can resume. If you decide you do not want to upgrade the database right now, you can use the Database Wizard at any time
Upgrading the Enterprise Reporter Database:
Note: It is recommended that you backup the database before beginning the upgrade process. To upgrade the database, the account you are using must have SysAdmin rights on the SQL server to modify the database.
- If you are starting the Database Wizard from the Start menu, click the Start menu and select All Programs|Quest Software|Enterprise Reporter|Database Wizard and click Next.
– OR –
If the Database Wizard is already running, skip this step. - Choose Select/Upgrade Database and click Next.
- Enter the target SQL Server.
Note: You can either type the SQL server name or browse to it. If you browse, you will see all SQL servers in your subnet that are configured to advertise their presence. If you do not see your server on the list, you must type the name. - Enter or browse to the existing database name and click Next.
Note: You can type the database name, or browse to it. Enterprise Reporter validates that the database exists, and is a valid Enterprise Reporter database. Enterprise Reporter connects to the SQL server using Windows authentication by default. If you want to connect using SQL credentials, enter them before clicking Browse or Next. If the Browse dialog box is empty, ensure the SQL server is correct. Or, try using different credentials, as only databases to which the current credentials have access are shown. - To confirm that you want to start the upgrade, select I understand and wish to continue and click Next.
- Select the security group type for the SQL groups.
Note: Using the default group type is recommended. If you plan to use Access Explorer, you must select either Domain Local or Global. During an upgrade of the database, the required groups will be created if they do not already exist. - Enter the names for the SQL groups and click Next.
Note: Using the default group names is recommended. - Review the warning message and click OK to continue.
– OR –
Click Cancel to further modify the Security Group Types or the Security Group Names. - To complete the database upgrade, click Finish.
Note: If errors occur during an upgrade, they are detailed at the end of the process. - If the Quest Enterprise Reporter Server service is not already running, restart it from the Services console.
Upgrading Enterprise Reporter Nodes that have not been manually configured:
Note: Nodes can be upgraded individually or in groups.
- Open the Configuration Manager.
- To display the nodes, select Manage Discovery Clusters and click the Discovery Nodes tab.
Note: All nodes with versions that are out of sync with the Enterprise Reporter server will display a status of Incompatible Version. - Select the nodes you want to upgrade and click the Upgrade Node icon.
Note: The status of the nodes will change to Updating. Once the Nodes have been updated, their statuses will change to Enabled and any Cluster associated with the Nodes will also become enabled. - Select Access Explorer Management | Manage Computers and ensure the Data State field displays Data Available for all managed computers.
Note: Computers will automatically update within 4 to 6 minutes. If any computer continues to display a status other than Data Available after 15 minutes, select the computer and click Restart to restart the agent and re-establish communications. - Open Report Manager and enable any scheduled reports.

Note: For detailed instructions see "Modifying Node Credentials" in the
Quest Enterprise Reporter Configuration Manager User Guide. - To accept the updated credentials, click OK.
