Is there a limit on the number of overrides which can be defined?
No, there is no limit on the total number of overrides which can be defined. However, by default there is a limit of 1000 characters for the sum of all defined overrides.
If this limit is a problem, it can be adjusted by altering two definitions: one SQL stored procedure and one SQL function. The stored procedure "CreateOrUpdatePersonView" is responsible for regenerating the BT_PersonView each time a new override is saved.
Changing the line: DECLARE @sql varchar(8000)
to: DECLARE @sql varchar(max)
Will allow the variable to hold vastly more information.
Next you need to modify the "GetPersonViewField" function. This function is used by the stored procedure to generate the dynamic SQL. By default it is limited to a return value of 1000 characters which poses a problem by altering the @sql variable size in the stored procedure due to the concatenation of the return with the @sql variable.
Changing the line: RETURNS varchar(1000)
to: RETURNS varchar(max)
Will ensure that you are no longer limited by size with the overrides.
