New Connection to .ACCDB file error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Cannot open database. -
Description
When opening or connecting to an Access .accdb database on Windows 7, the following error is received:
"[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Cannot open database '(unknown)'. It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt."
The file is not corrupt and opens fine in other PCs.

Cause
Access 2010 ODBC driver not installed.

Resolution
Download and install the "Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable" here.
AccessDatabaseEngine.exe (the 32-bit version)
Note: Toad will only support the 32-bit version. It can be installed on a 64-bit Windows and should not conflict with existing 64-bit Office setup.

Additional Information
This may apply to various versions of Toad Data Point. Office 2010 and newer is available in 32bit and 64bit versions. Since Toad is a 32-bit application it does not support the use of a 64bit driver. If Access 64bit is installed on a computer it may not include the 32bit ODBC driver and so cannot work with Toad. In such a case, you will need to install the 32bit version of the Microsoft Access Database Engine along side the existing 64bit setup. Launching the installation of a Microsoft Access Database Engine in the usual way, on a machine with an Office installation architecture different from the current one (e.g. 32-bit on 64-bit), may cause the installation to fail. To have it run properly, you need to launch it from a command line with the “/passive” argument specified: To install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 32-bit on a machine running Office 64-bit: > AccessDatabaseEngine.exe /passive Please refer to local company helpdesk/support for further assistance with the installation and drivers if needed.
