What are the QUEST_SL_EXPLAIN and QUEST_SL_TEMP_EXPLAIN tables and how are they used?
In Oracle 8.1 or later, the execution plan is retrieved into a temp table named QUEST_SL_TEMP_EXPLAINn.
In previous versions of Oracle or for users without CREATE TEMP TABLE privileges, a permanent table is used.
This table is named QUEST_SL_EXPLAINn, where n is a number starting at 1 which makes the table name unique in your database. The first time you logon with a new user name, you are prompted with a dialog to create this table which shows you the CREATE TABLE statement before it is executed. The scripts used to create the permanent or temporary table are attached to this solution.
Permanent Execution Plan Table is used when retrieving the execution plan in Oracle 8 or earlier or if the user account cannot create a temporary table.
Temporary Execution Plan Table is used when retrieving the execution plan in Oracle 8i or later.
