The the datastore vRanger is backup up has 8MB block size My vRanger is on a 1MB Block Size datastore 1MB block size datastore can only create an approx 256GB VM.
VDDK hot add wont allow a disk to be mounted to a VM that is on a datastore that can't support the disk size (even if the mounted disk is on a datastore that can) that is my theory anyway
· Hot Add limitation when VMFS block sizes are mismatched
Hot Add cannot be used if the VMFS block size of the datastore containing the virtual machine folder for the target virtual machine does not match the VMFS block size of the datastore containing the proxy virtual machine. For example, if you back up virtual disk on a datastore with 1MB blocks, the proxy must also be on a datastore with 1MB blocks.
Make sure the vRanger is residing on the same block size datastore as VM's which are being backed up.
You can accomplish this by:
Migrating the vRanger VM to an 8 MB datastore.
