By default, NetVault will only scan for devices (drives and arm changers) on LUN 0 and 1
With SCSI, this is not normally a problem, as it would be unusual to have more than 2 LUNs (the only exceptions being some loaders which can have the drive on 1 LUN and the changer on another LUN, i.e. a multi-LUN device).
However, on a SAN, it is normal to have far more LUNs (sometimes hundreds).
If a customer sets up a fibre-attached tape drive on LUN 1 and the arm changer on LUN 2, then the net effect is that NetVault will only see the tape drive. However the operating system will see both arm changer and drive.
The reason NetVault limits the number of LUNs it scans by default is to minimise the amount of time it takes NetVault to scan for new devices at the start of day. If we were to scan even 20 or 30 LUNs, Netvault would take minutes, even hours, to startup.
