When doing backups from vSphere, backup speeds are reduced, relative to environments using ESX 3.x
Vizioncore is aware of an issue regarding vRanger Pro DPP backup performance in ESX 4. VMware has acknowledged a problem in ESX 4, which affects performance of any application sending data across the service console.
This limitation affects vRanger Pro DPP backups by limiting the maximum rate at which vRanger can transfer data. Please note the following:
- this ESX 4 issue affects all reads.
- It may cap out transmission rates around 19MB / s (but it depends upon the hosts – so there are configurations that can exceed beyond this)
VMware ESX 4.0, Patch ESX400-201003401-BG should resolve this issue.
See the VMware vCenter Update Manager Administration Guide for instructions on using Update Manager to download and install patches to automatically update ESX 4.0 hosts.
To update ESX 4.0 hosts without using Update Manager, download the patch ZIP file from http://support.vmware.com/selfsupport/download/ and install the bulletin by using esxupdate from the command line of the host. For more information, see the ESX 4 Patch Management Guide.
