EMWProf updates fail to complete sporadically when run over the network, but finish successfully when the executables are copied locally. An update may fail at different locations with subsequent attempts, &/or may complete correctly without any reconfiguration. Failure to complete may or may not result in an error in the log file.
The fact that the updates fail sporadically & may subsequently succeed without changing any settings indicates some kind of environmental problem or constraint.
The application is designed in such a way that it reads portions of code, at run time, from the .exe file on disk. This is done to enable a quick load & start with minimum impact on the workstation's system resources. If for whatever reason the next section of code can not be read at a certain stage then the update will fail.
There are some examples of differences in performance with running the updates locally vs. over the network in https://support.quest.com/Search/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL32282.
