Since we moved our RAC installation from Windows to RedHat our database freeze once a day.
The amount of latches are increasing until nothing works anymore.
Is it possible that Performance Analysis (PA) is the one which creates so much latches?
PA collector does not create latches on the database. The collector does not use SQL statements to collect data, it connects directly to the SGA, so it cannot create any latches.
The only SQL*Plus connection PA creates it to collect the advisory data from the schema in the monitored database and to collect changes in the Oracle data dictionary which happens every 6 hours.
To investigate the latches use PA. You can identify the culprit program or DB user while drilling down in the Program or DB User dimension. After identify the reason for the issue you can start tuning your database, OS system or application.
