I'm getting the following while running the script drop_instance_fix.sql:

The symbol "Ã" was ignored.

After modified the script at the beginning of each line you will find an "Ã" due to modifying the script with MS Word or Wordpad or another complex editor.

Ã inst number;
Use always simple editors to modify the scripts for example notepad or vi.
If you want to use the script on a Unix server, transfer the script first to the server and modify it directly on the server using the vi.
Another option to remove Windows specific line feeds or carriage returns is the command "dos2unix"
