After the password was changed for the user account that had been specified during installation of the Quest Knowledge Portal, the application becomes neither able to get the list of the available databases on specified SQL server when setting up a data source connection for reporting nor able to search for accounts in AD when granting access rights to report users.
The account used during installation of the Quest Knowledge Portal is used as identity account for 2 COM+ objects that QKP creates and utilizes. These 2 COM+ objects fail to start with the error in the title, because the password is no longer valid.
Open Component services on the computer with Quest Knowledge Portal installed and change password in the Identity Tab for the following 2 COM+ components:
Quest Database Browse
Quest AD Browse
