What is the expected behavior when re-migrating Novell volumes during a File Migration with Migrator for NDS?
When performing a File Migration, Migrator for NDS employs "source is master" behavior. If multiple file migrations are required, pre-existing folders and files on the target are overwritten by subsequent file migrations. The specific behavior of Migrator for NDS in the event of multiple file
migrations is as follows:
1. If the same folders already existing on target:
Migrator for NDS always:
- Uses existing target folders; they will not be overwritten
- Resets ACLs on existing target folders
- Resets ownership on existing target folders
- Resets attributes on existing target folders
2. If the same files already existing on target:
Migrator for NDS:
- Recopies source file if date/timestamp or size of target file is different from that of source
- Always resets ACLs on existing target files
- Always resets ownerships on existing target files
- Resets attributes on target files that were recopied from source
3. If new folders on source:
Migrator for NDS:
- Always copies new folders or subfolders from source
- Sets ACLs for those folders and subfolders
- Sets ownership for those folders and subfolders
- Sets attributes for those folders and subfolders
4. If there are new files on source:
Migrator for NDS always:
- Copies any new files
- Sets ACLs for those files
- Sets ownership for those files
- Sets attributes for those files
5. If new folders on target:
Migrator for NDS:
- Ignores any new folders created on the target.
6. If new files on target:
Migrator for NDS:
- Ignores any new files created on the target.
Note - There is one exception to this "source is master" behavior. If a default ACL is specifically selected in the File Migration Options, it will be set everywhere on the target regardless of whether those rights have been blocked on the source side. Please refer to the Migrator for NDS User manual for further information about the Default ACL.
