In the Performance Analysis installation folders I see a lot of files having an @-sign. For example:
quest_sc_collector@220 or quest_sc_collector@413
What does that mean?
Performance Analysis has the following structure:
(The following explanation use exemplary the file name quest_sc_collector)
After installing the version 6.5.220 you will find:
quest_sc_collector
quest_sc_collector@220
quest_sc_collector is a link pointing to quest_sc_collector@220. The number is referring to the minor release version number of PA: 6.5.220. If you upgrade now to PA version 6.5.413 you will find:
quest_sc_collector
quest_sc_collector@220
quest_sc_collector@413
Now the link is pointing to quest_sc_collector@413, the new binary version.
During the upgrade PA installs the new binary and modifies the link. The software itself is always looking for a binary called quest_sc_collector. So if you remove the link, PA is not working anymore.
If you see binaries with 2 digits, for example quest_sc_collector@43, it means that this binary version is lower than 6.5. In this case the binary comes with PA version 6.3.43.
If needed you can remove the link and rename quest_sc_collector@413 to quest_sc_collector. But be aware that after an new upgrade the link will be recreated.
We do not overwrite existing binaries because then you are not able to switch back to the old installation if the upgrade fails for any reason.
If you do not want to keep all the old binaries and config files you have to do an new installation in another directory instead of an upgrade. If the new installations works fine, you can remove the old installation. In this case you won't be able to switch back to the old installation once you removed it.
