Toad Chat is Toad's conversational AI interface part of a broader set of AI capabilities built into Toad Solutions, including AI Explain, AI Validate, AI Optimize, and AI Educate (see: Introducing Toad AI Insights). This article covers Toad Chat's two areas of AI-powered functionality: Quest AI Services, the built-in assistants that help you understand, validate, and optimize SQL, and Toad MCP, which lets external AI assistants interact directly with Toad and your active database context using natural language.
Quest AI Services are the AI capabilities built directly into Toad Chat:
Invoke AI Explain, AI Validate, and AI Optimize directly from the Editor toolbar for quick access while you work.

Toad also supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) a way for external AI assistant to connect directly to Toad and carry out tasks against your active database connection using natural language, instead of requiring you to describe schema names, object ownership, or fully qualified object names yourself.
Toad's MCP servers are schema and context aware, covering common DBA and developer tasks such as managing sessions, browsing schema objects, analyzing code, and executing scripts.
