Error Message when Refresh (4383450)

When using the GPOADmin console, the following error message may appear when refreshing a view:

System.InvalidOperationException
The following operation is not valid because the class View has shut down: OnGlobalActionsChanged.

This issue is observed intermittently when interacting with the console tree view. In most cases:

• The problem occurs after selecting multiple containers in the left pane (tree view).
• Only one specific container may initially appear affected.
• The issue is triggered when performing a refresh action.
• The behavior occurs directly on the server console.

This behavior is related to a limitation within Microsoft Management Console (MMC), not a defect in GPOADmin itself.

Key findings:

1. MMC View Limitation

   • MMC has a built-in limitation of handling a maximum of 10 open views simultaneously.
   • Each time a node/container is clicked in the tree view, a new view is opened.

2. Trigger Condition

   • When a user navigates across multiple containers (up to or exceeding 10 selections), MMC reaches its view limit.
   • Refreshing a view after this threshold is reached can result in the console error.

3. User Interaction Pattern

   • It is easy to unintentionally open multiple views by clicking through different containers in the tree.
   • This leads to the issue being encountered intermittently and not reproducible in controlled testing unless the threshold is met.

4. Testing Results

   • Internal testing across various environments (local/remote machines, different OS versions, regions, and languages) did not reproduce console crashes under normal usage.
   • The issue only occurs when the MMC view limit condition is met.

Since this is an MMC limitation, the following workarounds are recommended:

• Close and reopen the console
  Restarting the GPOADmin console clears all open views and resets the MMC view count.

• Use targeted navigation

• Monitor open views behavior
  If the issue occurs, assume the MMC view threshold has been reached and reset the session.
