When configuring auditing for a Dell EMC Unity array using Change Auditor and Common Event Enabler (CEE), the configuration fails with the following error:
“Filer not found”
This occurs even after:
The issue is commonly observed in environments with firewall restrictions and when reusing configurations from other NAS platforms, such as Isilon.
The issue is caused by using the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the CEE server during the Unity auditing configuration.
Unlike Dell EMC Isilon, which supports and commonly uses FQDN, Dell EMC Unity requires the short hostname for proper identification and registration of the filer.
When the FQDN is used:
o resolve the issue:
Update the Unity auditing configuration to use the short hostname (NetBIOS name) of the CEE server instead of the FQDN
Reapply or reconfigure the auditing settings on the Unity array
Restart the CEE services (if required) to ensure the changes take effect
