How to set and check my Oracle_Home to be used on Toad for Oracle? (4383406)

• Registry vs. Environment Variables: On Windows, Oracle often stores its home path in the Windows Registry (). Setting it as an environment variable will override the Registry value for that session or user.

The steps are as follows:

1. Go to Environment variable settings on your machine, assuming it to be a Windows machine. 
2. Select the Environment variable. 
3. Under the System variable, add  the following variables: LD_LIBRARY_PATH, ORACLE_HOME  and TNS_ADMIN.
4. Once the variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH is created, the value will be path where you installed the oracle client.  example, lets say we installed the oracle client inthe following path  C:\App\Oracle\instantclient_21_12.
5. The value for the variable ORACLE_HOME  will be the same like the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable.
6. The value for the variable TNS_ADMIN will be C:\App\Oracle\instantclient_21_12\network\admin.
7. Once all the new variables is created, you could verify on the command prompt. (Open a command prompt and type PATH  and you will see the path for the Oracle Client).
8. Then on the Toad for Oracle on the drop down list for Oracle home will be populated.
