Toad for Oracle Displays Trial License Instead of Commercial License

The latest version of Toad for Oracle is installed and having a valid License Key and Site Message. However, after logging into the application, Toad appeared to activate a trial license instead of the customer’s commercial license.

After signed into the product, which triggered the creation or activation of a trial/subscription-based license profile. Since the customer does not own a subscription license, the product displayed trial licensing information rather than the perpetual or term commercial license.

This issue may occur when:

• The user signs into Toad for Oracle using a Quest account.
• Toad attempts to validate or activate subscription/trial licensing automatically.
• A temporary trial license profile overrides or takes precedence over the manually entered commercial license.
• The customer only owns a perpetual/commercial license and not a subscription entitlement.

Option 1 – Continue Using the Commercial License Offline (Recommended)

Use the product without signing into the Quest account and manually activate the perpetual license using the License Key and Site Message.

Steps:

1. Open Toad for Oracle.
2. Navigate to the licensing window (help >>Licensing).
3. Remove or deactivate the active trial license if present. (Click on Manage, this will open the Quest Licensing Portal)
4. Sign out of the Quest account inside Toad for Oracle.
5. Re-enter the commercial:
   • License Key
   • Site Message
6. Restart Toad for Oracle.
7. Confirm the product now displays the commercial license information.

Option 2 – Verify License Type with Licensing Team

If the issue persists, verify that the provided License Key corresponds to a perpetual commercial license and not a subscription or evaluation license.

The customer may need to:

• Confirm entitlement details with the licensing team.
• Verify maintenance/support dates.
• Ensure the installed Toad version is covered under the license maintenance period.

 

Note: Toad for Oracle can display multiple active license entries simultaneously when both trial/subscription and term/perpetual licensing information exist in the local profile. This does not necessarily indicate a licensing failure, especially if the commercial license remains active and operational.

 

Signing into Toad for Oracle can trigger subscription or trial license workflows. Customers using perpetual/commercial licenses may prefer offline/manual activation methods when subscription licensing is not applicable to their entitlement.
