This article provides an overview of roles included with Foglight Evolve cartridges and their intended use. Roles control user access to dashboards, reports, and administrative actions within the Foglight platform.
Below is a list of roles specific to Foglight Evolve cartridges and their descriptions. For details on other built-in roles included with Foglight, see KB 4309688.
AD Administrator
Allows access to all dashboards in Foglight for Active Directory.
AD QuickView User
Allows access to the Active Directory Environment dashboard.
AD Report User
When implemented, this role will allow access to the Report Management dashboard and Active Directory reports.
Container Administrator
This role restricts the user to the Container Environment dashboard only, including the Administration tab.
Container Operator User
This role restricts the user to the Container Environment dashboard only, except the Administration tab.
EX Administrator
Allows access to all dashboards in Foglight for Exchange.
EX QuickView User
Allows access to the Exchange Environment dashboard in Foglight for Exchange.
EX Report User
When implemented, this role will allow access to the Report Management dashboard and Exchange reports.
Google Cloud Administrator
Relevant role in Google Cloud views and reports. Access to Cloud Manager requires either the Advanced Operator or Operator role.
Google Cloud Report User
This role provides access to Google Cloud reports. Additional roles, such as Administrator or Operator, may be required to view all reports.
Hyper-V Administrator
This role provides full access to all components of Foglight for Hyper-V, views and reports.
Hyper-V Automation User
Users with this role can access the Hyper-V Explorer Administration tab. This tab provides quick access to common administrative tasks that include server shutdown, virtual machine creation, resource allocation, and others. IMPORTANT: Executing Hyper-V administration tasks, such as rebooting a Hyper-V server, require specific Hyper-V permissions.
Hyper-V QuickView User
This role restricts the user to the Hyper-V Environment dashboard only. Attempts to navigate to the Hyper-V Explorer result in the following message: You are not authorized to access view "Hyper-V Explorer".
Hyper-V Report User
This role grants access to Foglight for Hyper-V reports only. None of the Hyper-V views are accessible if this is the user’s only role. To work with reports, the user additionally requires the Reports Manager role.
Hyper-V Operator User
This role restricts the user to the Hyper-V Environment and Hyper-V Explorer dashboards only, except the Administration tab. Attempts to navigate to these elements result in the following message: Sorry. The view is not authorized.
Remediation Role
Foglight Resource Optimizer users must have the "Remediation role" to be able to run and automate recommendations.
Storage Administrator
Perform administrative tasks from the Storage Environment dashboard. Excludes actions reserved for the Foglight for Storage Management Administrator role, such as creating and modifying agents, rules, and registry variables. View all Storage & SAN dashboards. Create and manage Storage reports.
Storage QuickView User
View all Storage & SAN dashboards. Create and manage Storage reports.
Storage Report User
View Storage reports only.
VMware Administrator
This role provides full access to all product components, views and reports.
VMware Automation User
Users with this role can access the VMware Explorer Administration tab. This tab provides quick access to common administrative tasks that include server shutdown, virtual machine creation, resource allocation, and others. IMPORTANT: Executing VMware administration tasks, such as rebooting an ESX® host or a VM, require specific VMware® permissions.
VMware QuickView User
This role restricts the user to the VMware Environment dashboard only. Attempts to navigate to the VMware Explorer result in the following message: You are not authorized to access view "VMware Explorer".
VMware Report User
This role grants access to the Foglight for VMware reports only. None of the VMware views are accessible if this is the user’s only role. To work with reports, the user additionally requires the Reports Manager role.
VMware Operator User
This role restricts the user to the VMware Environment and VMware Explorer dashboards only, except the Administration tab, and NetFlow Setting and Cisco Setting dialog boxes. Attempts to navigate to these elements result in the following message: Sorry. The view is not authorized.
