When accessing the properties of a registered OU and selecting the GP Inheritance tab, the following error message may be displayed:
The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007200A)
An issue has been identified with Group Policy inheritance on a Scope of Management (SoM) when a GPO linked to the SoM does not have a name assigned. In the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC), this condition appears as a linked GPO with the name "[Name not available]". When such a link exists, the error described in the problem description is triggered.
If this unnamed GPO is linked at the domain root and inheritance is enabled for SoMs, all SoMs inheriting this link will exhibit the same behavior.
A second, related scenario—also addressed by the same defect—can cause this issue. If one or more GPOs have been deleted but remain linked at the domain root level, the issue may occur. In GPMC, these GPOs appear with a red X and the name “Not Found”. Note that these objects are not displayed in GPOADmin and must be reviewed directly in GPMC.
WORKAROUND:
Assign a valid name to the affected GPO.
STATUS
Defect ID - 629205 has been created to consider including a fix in a future release of the product.
