Rollback on the SMA to a previous version (4381914)

The KACE Systems Management Appliance (SMA) does not support rolling back to a previous version once an upgrade has been completed. Due to structural differences between database versions, it is not possible to import or reuse the current database on an older SMA version.

Each SMA release includes schema changes, table updates, and other database modifications. Because of these version‑specific database structures, a database from a newer version is not backward‑compatible.

Therefore:

• You cannot take the existing database and load it into an older version.
• You cannot restore snapshots or backups made after upgrading to a newer version.

Rollback is not supported.
The only available workaround is:

1. Maintain backups taken before the upgrade (VM snapshots, SMA backups, etc.).
2. Deploy a new SMA appliance/OVF at the previous version.
3. Restore the pre‑upgrade backup into that appliance.

Note that any new issues found on recent SMA releases are quickly fixed via Cumulative Updates. If you have any critical issue that would like to be fixed on a current release, please contact support.
