This will be addressed in the next MAJOR release of Spotlight , via the introduction of an Alarm Acknowledgment facility.
With alarm acknowledgment, there are two major scenarios. First, if you want an alarm to stay in the system until the user decides that the problem is resolved. A good example here is the Deadlock alarm … currently Spotlight will clear the Deadlock alarm after 5 minutes, and that removes it from view (except in Playback).
The second scenario is as described above: an alarm is raised, and the user wants to tell Spotlight that OK, I’ve seen it, and it can go away now.
The Error Log alarm is a good example. By default this runs at 3 am every morning, and if an alarm is raised, then it will stay in the system for 24 hours.
By acknowledging it, you can make it go away immediately, and wait for the next check at 3 am. The enhancement reference number for that is CR13931.
Using “Ignore Alarm” is not a solution … because that will permanently disable it. An alternative workaround is to Snooze the alarm (and you can specify how long the snooze runs for, including days), but the real solution is the Alarm Acknowledge functionality.
Alarm Acknowledge functionality is not avaiable in 8.0.1 version.
