Using Horizontal partitioning and vertical partitioning at the same time for a single table.

At times there is a need to set up replication for both horizontal partition and vertical partition for a given table. This is required when a subset of columns are replicated (vertical partition) as well as the subset of rows are replicated (horizontal partition).

 General information.

1. Make a copy of the currently active config file and edit it to include the syntax for vertical and horizontal partitioning for the table in question. Depending on how many columns are there in the table, you can use the syntax to include the remaining columns or  exclude this column. Since you also intend to use horizontally partitioned replication for the source table type an exception marker (!) and the name of the partition scheme using the same case and spelling as in the SHAREPLEX_PARTITION table in place of target route in the entry for the table as below:

 

owner.source_table (column list) owner.target_table (column list if applicable)  !partition_scheme

This is assuming that the route specified in the partition_scheme is also listed somewhere in the config file entry for any other table which is part of the configuration. If this is not true and no other tables are going thru this route, then the route needs to be specified as a separate entry in the last line as below:

owner.source_table (column list) owner.target_table (column list if applicable)  !partition_scheme

2. Then activate the copy to bring the table in replication for both horizontal and vertical partitioning.
