How to setup connections in Spotlight monitoring cluster ?
With cluster support beginning with version 8.5, you will need to update the connections in Spotlight, to get it to function as intended.
To monitor a SQL Server cluster effectively you should:
1. Re-create (or create if this is new install) a Windows connection for each physical node in the cluster
2. Create a SQL Server connection that uses the virtual name and set the Linked OS connection to ‘Cluster (monitor active node)’
Then Spotlight on SQL Server Eneterprise will select the Windows connection that monitors the active cluster node when the SQL Server connection first connects. During a fail-over the SQL Server connection is disconnected and re-connected so the active Windows connection selection occurs again at that point on active node.
If this was upgrade you should remove any Windows connections that use Windows cluster virtual host names, ensure they have Windows connections for the physical nodes in the cluster, and then change the Linked OS connection to ‘Cluster (monitor active node)’ as the old versions didn't have that item in the drop down menu.
