The prerequisites specify that the MessageStats service account credentials require read rights to admin share on Exchange Server. The Admin shares are not changeable from Full Access and permission cannot be granted to the servers without making the account a full Administrator of the box. Why is permission to a file share (other than the tacking log share which exists specifically for this) necessary?
Administrative rights are requested for the MessageStats account so that it may access the administrative shares of the given machine (which are in turn used to query information regarding stm, mdb, and edb files.) However, giving the MessageStats account Backup Operator rights to the exchange servers will also allow this access.
