Issue
I ran the fix folders agent, and it repaired a number of folders that were blank, and had trailing blanks in the name, but I have a few migrations that failed with no errors, and the migration status states: "<User Name> Migration Failed"
I looked above this line in the log, and I should normally see 'Unfiled' folder as the last folder migrated. This was not the case for this migration.
I scrolled up and found the last folder that CMTe was trying to migrate. It was called "Yearly Report\"
Why didn't the "Fix Folders" agent fix this folder?
Analysis
The Fix Folders agent is working as designed. The purpose of the agent is to clean up folders with no name, and folders with trailing spaces in the name. The nested folders do not have a trailing space, so these are skipped from processing since the space is somewhere within the text sting, not the end. In this case the folder name is 'Yearly Report\". There is no trailing space.
Notes validation does not allow for trailing spaces or backslashes at the end of the name. How were these folders created, since Notes trims the trailing space when the folder is first saved?
Notes Migrator (CMTe) is designed to work with source Domino mailboxes, based on the standard mail template, and assumes all Notes validations are in place, and all folders, best practices are followed when creating/modifying Notes documents and design elements.
Binary Tree has tested folder naming validation in Notes 7.x, 8.5.x, and 9.x. We cannot reproduce the scenarios listed above. Unfortunately Notes Migrator cannot account for every user error that circumvents standard Notes validation.
This will require remediation by the customer, since standard Notes validation rules do not allow a folder to be created with a trailing space, or a backslash ( \ ).
