When using Recovery Manager for Exchange to connect to the Microsoft DPM Server, the following error may be received "Cannot connect to DPM server. Make sure the specified DPM server is accessible".
This can be caused if the Service Pack level for the client DPM Management Shell is not the same as the Service Pack level on the DPM server.
To verify if this is the issue encountered, open the DPM Management Shell from the server where Recovery Manager for Exchange is installed and run the following cmdlet:
connect-dpmserver -dpmservername <server name>
Replace <server name> with your actual DPM server name.
If the error below is received then it is necessary to install SP1 for the DPM Management Shell.
"Connect-DPMServer : DPM has been successfully installed. However, you must restart the computer to complete the DPM installation. (ID: 4319)
Restart the computer to complete the DPM installation.
At line:1 char:18
+ connect-dpmserver "
Service Pack 1 for DPM Management Shell can be obtained from the Microsoft support site here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959605
The file name of SP1 specifically for the Management Shell is: DPMManagementShell2007- KB959605
Download and install this Service Pack on the Recovery Manager for Exchange server then re-run the connect-dpmserver cmdlet from above.
Re-open Recovery Manager for Exchange and use the wizard to connect to the DPM server
