Computers on the network contact the server specified as the download/distribution Update Service server instead of local distribution servers. This generates an excessive amount of network traffic when the workstations pull an MSI from a remote server or the MSI Packages are not installed.
Configure site map and specific Update Service distribution servers based on Active Directory sites.
Then Save and Replicate the Changes.
Deployment Settings | Server Manager | Configure Site Map
The workstations should now start checking the update service servers based on Active Directory site.
An additional step includes configuring MSI Packages elements to use specific distribution servers.
