When running Recovery Manager for Exchange (RMEX) emulation with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) you may come across an error "Could not start Exchange Server emulation as Exchange Server is installed on this computer"
Workaround:
It is highly recommended to backup the Windows Registry.
1.) Close the RMEX console
2.) Open a Command Prompt as an Administrator.
3.) Execute the following commands
- sc stop MSExchangeSA
- sc delete MSExchangeSA
- sc stop MSExchangeIS
- sc delete MSExchangeIS
4.) Start the RMEX Emualtion again.
5.) Under Services.msc, you can verify that the following Services are running
- Microsoft Exchange System Attendant
- Microsoft Exchange Information Store
NOTE:
Even is the service is not running in the service console run the sc delete commands to remove the entry from the registry.
- Please make sure that there is no actual Exchange Server running on the Server/Computer before deleting the Services. These services are started by RMEX if no real Exchange Server is installed on the computer/Server.
