The file could not be opened. The likely cause of this is a bad path specification. (4310599)

I try to open a model file using erwin r9.7 and I get the error,

If I copy the file and paste it elsewhere like my desktop I am then able to open it.

Solution:

Please add the write privilege for your windows user or group for the directory the file resides in.

Right-click the directory or file and go into properties.  Choose the tab security.  Choose the Windows group or user you want.  Press edit.  Check on the Write checkbox and apply the change.

Now the user should be able to open the model.

NOTE:  recently we have had some users mention their models are being set to Read Only.  We also had a support engineer experience a similar problem with their Windows 10 OS.  For example, when they double-clicked an erwin model on the root of their C: drive erwin DM would launch but could not open the file.  Neither could they create a new file in the root of their C: drive.  This was their solution:
