Can a retention policy be configured with one period?

Resolution
A retention policy can be configured with one period and this would work but it is not recommended. Having one period instructs the server to keep the data in memory until it is purged.
It is a good practice to have at least 2 periods to allow the data to be persisted and removed from memory.
