File Association with Toad for SQL Server Not Working – Double-Clicking Files Does Not Open Toad
Description
When a user double-clicks a file that is associated with Toad for SQL Server (for example, a .sql file), Toad does not launch and the file does not open. No error message is displayed, and the application functions normally when launched manually.
Cause
This issue is caused by a known defect in earlier versions of Toad for SQL Server that prevents Windows file associations from correctly launching the application.
Resolution
There is no workaround available for affected versions.
Permanent Fix
This issue is fixed in Toad for SQL Server version 7.1.3.
Users experiencing this behavior should upgrade to version 7.1.3 or later.
The latest supported release of Toad can be downloaded from the Quest support portal.
Defect ID
TSS-1662
Additional Information
File association functionality depends on both Windows configuration and application support.
Reconfiguring file associations at the OS level does not resolve the issue in affected versions.
Installing the latest version ensures all known defects are addressed.
