Check for anti-virus (i.e. McAfee or Norton) or antispyware software (e.g. Zone Alarms) and disable them.
Note: McAfee Anti-Virus may have issue with the periods found in the version number of the installer (i.e. 9.7.2.5.) Rename the installer by removing all periods except for the '.exe' and then re-run the executable (e.g. "Toad for Oracle 9.7.2.5 Commercial.exe" to "ToadforOracle9725Commercial.exe".)
RESOLUTION 4:
Open or view ALL the Permissions or Access Rights on your C: Drive, and make sure the Windows User you are logging in with have Full Read & Write access to that drive. If you are installing Toad in another Drive, do the same with that drive or destination directory in that drive.
Note, in Windows 7 ‘elevated privileges’ (> ‘administrator’) is required for some installations.
RESOLUTION 5:
Right-click the installation file and choose "Run as Administrator", if available.
RESOLUTION 6:
Disable the Windows UAC settings.
RESOLUTION 7:
Download the installer again. This time download directly to your Windows "Desktop" location. Run it from there as well.
Note:
- Delete the old downloaded file first.
- Try other web browsers as well i.e. Firefox, Chrome, etc.
RESOLUTION 8:
Try a full reboot of your PC.
Issue is usually isolated to one user. User typically have administrator privileges on Windows XP. In some cases even the SYS Admin could not install to the local PC. Also, some are able to run the installer on a local laptop but not on networked desktop. Internet access might be via proxy.
