Issue 1:
After recently installing Toad 10.x, the following error at connection: "Access Violation at address xxxx...." occurrs. The error can be bypassed by clicking OK.
However, there are graphical square shaped characters throughout Toad or Asian type characters, such as data in Data Grid, object names in Schema Browser, etc.
Issue 2:
When trying to connect, Toad displays an error message that has Asian characters at the top:
Using Oracle client older than 8.1.7. Toad for Oracle does not support Oracle client 8.0.5/6 OR using a client/database version that is not compatible, such as 9.2.0.1 client with 10.2.0.4 database.
The version can be confirmed in the Support bundle (Help | Support Bundle) in the Oracle Client section.
Or this can also be confirmed in the Toad Advisor (Help | Toad Advisor).
Upgrade or install your Oracle client version to the matching (or greater) database version that is being connected to. Ensure that the bit type of the Oracle Client matches the Toad bit type, so that Toad will recognize it.
