Toad Data Point will hang or freeze for 3 minutes when going to File | New | Connection | choose Oracle from the Group list.
Description

When going to File | New | Connection | choose Oracle from the Group list | Toad Data Point will hang or freeze for three minutes. After Toad un-freezes, clicking on the Oracle Client drop-down list will hang TDP for another 3 minutes. It is very slow. LDAP is enabled in the company.
Cause

Several server entries in the LDAP.ORA file. Some are invalid as well. This is what's causing the delays.
Resolution

Remove invalid server entries in the LDAP.ORA file. Also try to leave just one server entry. This will limit the amount of server reads / waits Toad needs to do.
See example below. Remove or comment out the server entries that are not needed.
DIRECTORY_SERVERS = (dns01.dol.state.nj.us:3838, dns02.dol.state.nj.us:3838, dolsf12k-b.dol.state.nj.us:3838, tnsmanager.dol.state.nj.us:3838)
NOTE: Make a Backup copy of the said file before making changes.
The default location for this file in 10g and 11g is:
10g - C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\
11g - C:\app\<YOUR_USER>\product\11.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\
