At times one may wish to start replication but direct Shareplex to start processing changes from a specific SCN number. This solution delves on the possibility.
General information.
It is not possible to direct Shareplex to start replicating from a specific SCN # when a fresh activation is carried out. During activation Shareplex will only start processing changes from current SCN #.
It is possible to direct Shareplex to start replicating from a specific archive log instead of the current archive log but the same cannot be done for a SCN #. Contact Support for details. Moreover, directing Shareplex to replicate from a specific log sequence # only works in non-RAC environment . Another complexity involving this workaround is how to sync the target database, something that is not an issue when using hotbackup with reconcile and using the current archive log to activate Shareplex instance and sync the target at the same time.
