How to upgrade your r7.x / r8 mart to r9 mart using the MartUpgrade Utility (4300829)

NOTE:  This article is also good to read for general purposes of upgrading from prior versions of Model Manager to the new r9.x erwin WorkGroup Edition and erwin Mart Server r9, it is not just for using the MartUpgrade Utility.

Solution:

Basically, you need to do the following:

1.  Download the latest version of the r9 software.

You may download all software packages from the following URL:

2.  Get licenses.

You will need two licenses:

a) r9 workgroup edition license.

A copy of that r9 license goes into these two directories:

b) If your source mart is presently r7 version, you will also need an r8 Initializer license

The initializer license is placed into the directory C:\ProgramData\Application Data\CA\ERwin Data Modeler\8

3.  Install the mart server software and the erwin DM software.

When you install erwin, choose the option to also install the MartUpgrade.  MartUpgrade does not install by default.

4.  Set up the r9 mart server:

NOTE:  If you want to preserve your r7 source mart so that after the upgrade, your r7 mart r7 ERwin DM users may still be able to connect to the r7 mart, you will need to export the r7 mart database to a different second database and then use the MartUpgrade utility against that second database.  There is more work involved than just a simple backup and restore.  Please see the following articles that explains how that may be done:
