At times as a part of preparedness for migration/failover, customers want to know if it is possible to get the permanent license keys in advance so that the migration is seamless and they do not have to depend on temporary keys to keep going for the initial period. In brief, Shareplex is not yet installed on the proposed server and customer would like to get a key for that server. This solution delves on the possibility.
General information.
It is possible to get a permanent key for a proposed server on which Shareplex will be migrated in near future. Users will need to run the utility splex_uname. Normally it is done when the permanent key needs to be changed on existing server for whatever reasons (say the # of CPU have increased). The utility is located in /proddir/install directory in a Shareplex installation. The output from the running of splex_uname is then sent to Support, Sales or Licensing to get a permanent key. However, if Shareplex is not yet installed, then one of the following approaches need to be carried out:
1. Obtain the utility from an existing Shareplex install on another server and run it on a standalone basis on the proposed server where Shareplex is not yet installed.
2. Download it from Supportlink or obtain the utility from Support. The location in Suppportlink is:
downloads and updates | shareplex for oracle | utilities | shareplex version.
