This solution delves on the differences between the temporary and permanent keys of Shareplex.
General information.
The temporary and permanent keys differ in following respect:
Validity:
Temporary keys are valid for a short duration.
Permanent keys do not expire
Binding to a Customer name:
Temporary keys are not bound to any specific customer.
Permanent keys are created for a specific customer and this is reflected in the field Customer_Name which has unique value for a customer.
Restrictions:
Temporary keys have no restrictions in terms of # of CPU, etc.
Permanent keys are created with the current CPU configuration, hostid, etc in mind and if that changes, then a new key is required to be created. Also, the permanent keys are bound to hostid.
Other than this, there are no restrictions. Both keys will support virtually unlimited number of tables (as permitted by the database engine).
