Error: "Diagnostic Server Offline. The Diagnostic Server could not be contacted." after configuring the User Level Access setting.
Description

Error in Spotlight client application: "Diagnostic Server Offline. The Diagnostic Server could not be contacted." after configuring the User Level Access setting.
Cause

User has an Active Directory group which is a member of itself, and this group is one of Spotlight Diagnostic Groups.
The attached screenshot illustrates an example. If user adds the 'sossegroup' group to one of the Spotlight Diagnostic Groups and does not add the 'sossemon' user to any of the Spotlight Diagnostic Groups, then when 'sossemon' user opens Spotlight application, the error occurs.
Resolution

WORKAROUND:
1. Remove user group from the user group.
2. Reopen Spotlight client application
STATUS:
Waiting for fix in the future release of Spotlight on SQL Server Enterprise.
* Issue do to Circular Group Nesting. Refer to: https://serverfault.com/questions/180740/can-an-active-directory-group-indirectly-include-itself-in-a-cycle. In the example shown, the 'sossegroup' user group was removed from 'sossegroup' group.
