Within the variable directory (set by the environment variable SP_SYS_VARDIR), there are two subdirectories named data and config that contain user configured files.
During an upgrade, SharePlex does not remove entries from user configurable files like paramdb, conflict resolution files, hints files, config files, etc, from the variable directory.
However, the oramsglist file may be replaced by the upgrade process if the new version lets Post ignore more Oracle errors by default.
So if one currently has a modified oramsglist file, one may want to back it up so that one can modify the new oramsglist to ignore additional Oracle errors that one was ignoring prior to the upgrade by using the entries from the backed up file as a reference.
In general, one can back up the contents of the data directory as an added protection.
Within the product directory, there is a subdirectory named util that contains monitoring scripts.
These are configured by users.
The upgrade process can remove some of these scripts and impose new ones, if the template for the script in question has been modified by the newer version.
For this reason, it is highly advisable to back up the contents of util directory.
