How to create a Web Portal license.
- First, make sure the customer has provided a hostinfo.xml file. If they have not please send them the article below that explains step by step how to generate the hostinfo file.
- If this is not an NFR/trial/internal request please check the customer's sales order to confirm they have purchased Web Portal.
- Note: If the customer wants an additional license for their Dev/Test environment we will need approval from Sales. And if the customers want a permanent license they will need to purchase one or an exception approval from management would be required.
Once you have the hostinfo.xml file from the customer proceed to the next steps.
Fill in the fields highlighted below:
If the contract states unlimited please leave the default:
- number of named users =0
- number of concurrent users = 0
else if the sales order is set to 5 concurrent for example:
- number of named users=0
- number of concurrent users=5
Note: Named users should always be set to 0. For trials or NFR requests please leave the default (unlimited) unless specified.
Licensing Period:
- Trials keys are set to 15 days or depending on what sales specifies.
- NFR requests should always be set to 1 year.
- If a sales order is in place the license should be set to Permanent Customer License.
The summary will include
- ticket #,
- customer #
- company name
The Affects Version will depend on the Hostinfo file the customer sends to you. Once you open It you will see the version listed at the top. See an example below.
- Note: If the version is 10.0.1 please use 10.0.0 as the selected option.
Then select create and a green box will appear on the top right corner of the screen with the license information (as seen below). If it disappears by the time it is created please go to the dashboard and scroll down to licenses and locate the latest one. You will see your name if you completed the top portion correctly.

- Attach the hostinfo.xml file from the customer and select Attach Host Info File.
- A file appears under attachments as seen below.
- Next, select Request License for a permanent key or Generate Temp License for Trials
- Next, select Generate License.
- Another pop up will appear and select Generate License
- Under Attachments, you will see the Web Portal license file, Right click and save it to your desktop. Attach the file in the ticket and send the license disclaimer as well.
