"Error happened during activation" error message (4294153)

While performing an installation or upgrade and registering the activation key via the Record License Info or Grant Access button, an error occurs stating "Error happened during activation: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the registry Key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\...".

The account running the License Manager can not write to the machine's registry.

1. Close the ControlPoint License Manager.
2. Right-click on the ControlPoint License Manager icon and select "Run as Administrator". Or, locate it by going to C:/Program Files/Metalogix/ControlPoint/ControlPoint Features, then right-click on xcClient application and select "Run as Administrator".

       

3. When the ControlPoint License Manager window appears again, please follow the same procedure as before. This time it should complete without an error and complete the activation of ControlPoint.

Note: Running the utility with the action of right clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator" is sometimes necessary depending on the version of the Windows server.
