Title: CA ERwin DM will not Launch (UI Does Not Appear) when VPN Client is Running
Description:
If certain specific VPN client software is running, CA ERwin Data Modeler r8 does not open. Launching ERwin r8 results in the erwin.exe process appearing in the Windows Task Manager, but no ERwin UI is ever displayed.
If the VPN client is shut-down, ERwin can be launched. After ERwin is running, the VPN client can be run with no problems.
That behavior has been reported with specific VPN Client software including Cisco and corporate proprietary VPN clients.
The problem does NOT affect CA ERwin Data Modeler r7.3.
This has been reported on Windows XP and Windows 7/64.
Solution:
The solution is to make sure the VPN client is not running prior to launching CA ERwin Data Modeler r8. After CA ERwin Data Modeler is running, the VPN client can be invoked and ERwin (and the VPN client) will function with no problems.
