When attempting to use Recovery Manager for Exchange 4.9 in Emulation mode to connect to Veritas Netbackup 7.0 the Emulation fails to ever connect and Netbackup gives the error after 20 seconds:
'\\<<SERVERNAME>>\Microsoft Information Store' Failed! (0xE00084AF:The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed.'
When running Recovery Manager for Exchange 4.9 on a Windows 2008 R2 server or Windows 7 workstation the following key needs to be created in the registry:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Windows set the value to be “RequireSignedAppInit_DLLs” (REG_DWORD) = 0
Quest does not provide support for problems that arise from improper modification of the registry. The Windows registry contains information critical to your computer and applications. Make sure you back up the registry before modifying it.
For more information on the Windows Registry Editor and how to back up and restore it, refer to Microsoft Article ID 256986 “Description of the Microsoft Windows registry”:

To workaround the issue of Emulation not working with Netbackup 7.0 please follow the below details:
1) Open REGEDIT on the Recovery Manager server
2) Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion\Windows
3) Set the value RequireSignedAppInit_DLLs to be (REG_DWORD) = 0
