Description
Spotlight on Messaging (SOM) Management Console displays an "UNKNOWN SITE" node. Why?

Cause
The reason a server would appear in the "Unknown" group is because Spotlight on Messaging is unable to connect to the server during discovery and determine its site/domain information using an AD lookup.

Resolution
If it is not required to reguarly change your Exchange Topology the best advice would be to disable the Auto Discovery option. Auto Discovery happens at 12am UTC everyday by default.To disable Auto Discovery follow these steps:- Open SOM Management Console
- Right Click the Org Name - Properties
- Uncheck the "Schedule Discovery to Run Automatically"
Now when checking for any changes to an Exchange environment eg. Adding a new Exchange server. The user would be required to right click the Org node and select "Force Discovery Now" to update the Topology of the Exchange Organization.
